Class Notes: April 2007

Our sympathy to the family and friends of Marlene Welch Lee who died February 16, 2007 after suffering a stroke in December. She leaves her husband and her daughter, Dr. L. Veronica Lee. Marlene had a law degree and practiced law as well as taught chemistry for more than 20 years in the New Canaan Public Schools.

Married: Peggy Polk to Scott Sullivan in October, 2006. Peggy a reporter and editor worked until 2005 as Vatican correspondent in Rome before returning to New Orleans. Her husband had been the public affairs adviser to the International Energy Agency. Many from Harvard/Radcliffe including Lucia Stein Hatch, Glenn Goldberg Jordan H57, and Caroline Knox '59 attended while Nat LaMar H55 gave her away.

Ann Eldridge and her husband Robert Neer H57 were in Italy in October 2006 to celebrate the wedding of Bob's older son Bob Jr. H86. They also visited Budapest, Vienna and Prague in July of 2006. Stephanie Diamond Friedman is learning Spanish in order to communicate with and help register Spanish-speakers in rural and urban California. Former U.S. Representative Nancy Lee Johnson who served longer in the House than anyone in Connecticut history began in Feb. 2007, as a teaching fellow in the Harvard University Institute of Politics. The boxes of her documents concerning her government work will be stored at the Thomas Dodd Center at the University of Connecticut. Katherine Jarratt Law reports retirement is grand with 3 daughters, 4 grandchildren and sailing 12 months of the year. She now lives in San Diego, CA but misses her NYC buddies.

Julia Farrelly McVaugh reports she and her husband are both semi-retired and still healthy. Patricia Zartarian Nanian and her husband are enjoying retirement, their grandchildren, travel and many volunteer activities. Louise Foulk Newlin has retired from library education department, and reports is lucky to have a wonderful husband, three terrific children, all married and three peerless granddaughters. Edith Grossman Pearlman reports she is writing, reading, walking and enjoying two year old grandson.

Nancy Bassing Pollack reports the arrival of twin grandchildren. She is enjoying kayaking on Michigan lakes, continues to polish piano repertoire for home recitals and leading Shabbet services and reading from the Torah. Fran Byers Schloss reports her oldest grandchild graduated from high school last year and is studying in Israel this year prior to going to the honors program at the University of Maryland. Mary Jane Benton Sherwig reports she had pneumonia for several moths but has now recovered. Barbara Earle Weber is semi-retired and still doing several small architectural projects, as well as giving bridge lessons. They have 16 grandchildren of which 13 are girls.
