Class Notes: October 2006
The class extends their sympathy to the family and friends of Cecile Meara Proverbs of Overland Park, Kansas who died on June 2, 2006. She is survived by her two children John and Janetta Proverbs.
Sandys Moore Bureau is enjoying life as a grandma while working as an artist-painter. Her website is www.sandysmoore.com. Karen Lewald Clumpner is currently working in China but expects to be home by Christmas and will join in the class reunion. Nancy Dersofi also looks forward to reunion. Eva Yona Deykin is enjoying life in retirement with a book club, an aging mother and grandchildren filling her time. Lois Feinberg Finn is looking forward to our reunion as is Lee Ginsburg Herbst. Lee and her husband are studying Spanish including while in Mexico. They plan on trips to Singapore and Bhutan and divide their time between two homes in Chicago and Tucson.
Louise Greep Hogan is enjoying retirement in Vermont, enjoys travel, grandchildren, and her involvement in the Anglican Communion Network. Mary Ellen Collins Klots is planning knee replacement surgery but plans to be at the reunion. Marlene Welch Lee had a trip to China last May and is pleased to have her doctor daughter and granddaughter nearby. Nadja Scott Lilly is busy with her twin grandsons, tennis, photography and gardening. She recently spent a month in Prague as well as Innsbruck and Italy. She looks forwards to our reunion.
Antonia Schildge Malone has retired from the religious studies dept. at Seton Hall University but keeps busy with 20 grandchildren and her work in Haiti where she leads an effort by her church to develop a microcredit loan program. Sue McCoy has retired from general surgery and is a student again in biomedical ethics at U Va at which she also teaches first year medical students. Vera Winston Propp had a reunion this past summer with Beaty Young Blain, Nancy Nevius Milozanwoski and Shiela Tobias when all attended the national meeting of N.O.W. She is currently writing a book on her teaching experiences at an inner city middle school. Mary Jane Benton Sherwig is enjoying retirement with her activity around the church, Red Hat Society, the Study Club, local drama and music.
Penelope Comfort Starr divides her time between N.H. and California. She continues her work with cast glass making with ancient and contemporary fossil forms as well as rowing. She and her husband received four medals in the Worlds Masters Rowing Regatta and she plans to participate in more races including the Head of the Charles. She will be at the reunion. Shiela Chanler Swett has become obsessed with her digital camera and the wondrous world of nature from moose and mushrooms. She develops the photos on her Mac and creates cards and collages. Sally Holden Thompson is enjoying rural living again having moved back to her childhood home in Montpelier, VT. Jean Miner White and her husband have established an organic farm on land in the family for 5 generations. They grow for the local Farmer's Market, their own farm stand as well as for a non-profit branch to support educational programs teaching youngsters the importance of caring for the environment.
My apologies to all who sent in notes that were truncated but I wanted to have as many names in the notes as my word count would allow. Nearly all stated they were planning on attending reunion. Hopefully all of our class is planning to come and this will be the best reunion ever.
